St. Mary's Church is situated on the Agra-Bombay National Highway, 25 k.m. away from Guna. On 8th February 1986 the Guna community extended its pastoral work into the area of NFL (National Fertilizers Limited) at Vijaypur in Guna. It was a remarkable day for the Indian church because on this day His Holiness Pope John Paul II beatified Fr. Kuriakose Elias Chavara and Sr. Alphona. Fr. Davis Vadakumpadan, the Parish Priest of Guna together with some sisters of Vandana Convent used to offer Mass in a private house. Later a plot of land was bought in 1988 and in 1989 a small church was built in the name of Our Lady of Mercy. It was mainly built for the Christians working in NFL and GAIL (Gas Authority of India). At present Fr. Biju Thottankara is the parish priest. |
